Winter Weather Updates

Our crews are working hard to remove the snow, but the City is experiencing heavier than normal traffic. We will continue through the night to clear the roads.

City Schools:  All public schools citywide have a delayed opening on Friday, November 16th. School will open at 10am, doors open at 9:45am.  Administrators report at 9:15am, teachers and staff report at 9:30am.

Parking:  Alternate side parking and street cleaning have been suspended for tomorrow, November 16.

Garbage: At this time, garbage and recycling pick up may be delayed, but is not suspended. Our crews continue to face the heavy traffic throughout the City.

Municipal Court: Please be advised that the Jersey City Municipal Court evening court calendar is cancelled due to inclement weather. All matters scheduled for Thursday, November 15th at 4:30pm will be rescheduled and you will receive a new notice in the mail. Please continue to check the website for future announcements.

Power lines & trees: Please report fallen power lines to PSE&G by calling PSE&G’s Customer Service line at 1-800-436-PSEG (7734).  Please report any downed trees through SeeClickFix, which will notify our DPW crews for removal. 

General outage activity throughout our service territory is available online at pseg.com/outagecenter  and updates are posted on pseg.com during severe weather.

During inclement weather please keep in mind the following precautions:

● Staying informed is essential, and potentially lifesaving for you and your family.  To sign up for SwiftReach 911 emergency alerts click here.

● Residents are urged to check on elderly relatives and neighbors. 

● Report heat and other related complaints to the JC Resident Response Center at (201) 547-4900. 

● Local outreach teams are engaging & registering individuals for existing shelters & the Hudson County warming center. If you encounter a homeless family, please direct them to contact the Hudson County Homeless Hotline: 1-800-624-0287.

● Residents are also urged to keep pets indoors and secure outside furniture and articles due to impending high wind conditions.

● Residents are reminded to NOT PARK within 25 feet of an intersection and to not double park.  Doing so only hampers the efforts of crews plowing and salting streets. All vehicles parked within 25 feet of an intersection may be ticketed or towed. If possible, residents are asked to not park on main thoroughfares, so that DPW can remove snow from curb-to-curb.  During inclement weather, there is no parking on emergency routes.

● Following the storm, residents are reminded to NOT shovel snow into the street and should clear sidewalks in front of their property of snow and ice in accordance with the municipal ordinance.  Please follow these snow removal regulations.
