Biography
Jake Ephros is a teacher, tenant, former union organizer, and democratic socialist in Jersey City Heights. When Jake first moved to the Heights, he was active in the campaign for immigration justice, particularly to shut down the Hudson County ICE detention center. He worked at the old Fox & Crow, serving and bartending early on during the COVID-19 pandemic. Jake’s next job was as a labor organizer with 1199SEIU, where he fought alongside union nurses and nursing home workers to win better pay, benefits, and working conditions. He went on to help lead Jersey City’s Right To Counsel campaign, which won guaranteed legal representation for tenants in housing court. He has taught English at Hudson County Community College and continues to teach Political Science part-time at Saint Peter’s University.
Jake is grateful to call the Heights home; from watching the fireworks at Riverview Park to seeing the sunset from Mosquito Park, he loves being a part of our Ward D community. Jake is proud to have earned the trust and support of thousands of neighbors and is thrilled to represent our ward on City Council.
