DIVISION OF POLICE

The history of the Jersey City Police Department dates back to 1829, and today consists of more than 900 uniformed officers, 200 crossing guards, and 200+ civilian employees dedicated to the safety of Jersey City's residents and visitors.  The continued officer hirings significantly boost police presence citywide, which results in increasing deterrence, detection and solving of crimes.  It also helps foster active relationships between police and the community, creating open lines of communication and recognizing citizens as a crucial component in combating crime.

Requirements to Become a Jersey City Police Officer

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• U.S. citizen and resident of Jersey City
• Between 18 and 34 years old
• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• Valid New Jersey driver’s license

PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION DROPBOXES

JCPD  Secured Prescription Drop Boxes are located in each of the 4 police precincts and the Hudson County Sheriff's Office to allow anyone to safely dispose of unwanted prescriptions.

YELLOW DOT PROGRAM

 

The New Jersey Yellow Dot Program helps first responders quickly access critical medical information during emergencies, especially when an individual is unable to communicate.

The program is open to anyone who wants to provide first responders with quick access to important medical information in an emergency by placing a yellow sticker on their vehicle.  While it is especially helpful for seniors, individuals with medical conditions, or those taking medications, any resident can participate as an added safety measure.

Jersey City residents can obtain a Yellow Dot packet by calling the Chief’s Office at 201-547-5301, or by visiting Police Headquarters Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
